What to Expect at Your First Visit

Here’s what your first appointment looks like, from the moment you walk in to the plan you leave with.

Assessment

We start by listening. Your history, your lifestyle, what brought you in today. Then a thorough physical examination: orthopaedic, neurological, strength and postural testing.

Treatment

We explain what we’ve found in plain English. Then we build a management plan that fits your condition, your goals, and the way you actually live.

Self-Management

You’ll leave with strategies for between visits. Movements to add. Things to ease off. A home exercise program if one will help.

Common Questions About Chiropractic Care in Nowra

Do I need a referral to see a chiropractor?
No. Chiropractors are primary contact practitioners — you can book directly. A GP referral is only needed if your visits are being claimed under Medicare (CDM/EPC plan), DVA or WorkCover.

What does an initial chiropractic consultation involve?
Your first appointment includes a detailed history, physical and orthopaedic examination, a working diagnosis, and a discussion of the recommended plan. If it’s clinically appropriate, treatment can start in that same appointment.

What is the difference between chiropractic and physiotherapy?
Both professions assess and manage musculoskeletal conditions. The techniques overlap but the emphasis differs. Chiropractors place particular focus on the spine and joints. We work alongside physiotherapists at the Centre and refer in either direction when that’s the right call.

Are chiropractic consultations covered by private health insurance?
Most extras policies include chiropractic. Rebates vary by fund and policy. HICAPS is on-site, so you only pay the gap at the appointment.

What musculoskeletal conditions are managed at Basham Chiropractic?
Common presentations: lower back pain, neck pain, headaches, sciatica, disc injuries, postural strain, pregnancy-related back and pelvic pain, sports injuries, and pre/post-surgical rehabilitation. If your presentation isn’t on the list, call us and we’ll tell you whether we’re the right fit.

Is chiropractic care suitable for children and adolescents?
Chiropractic assessment and management can be appropriate across age groups when the techniques used match the age and stage of the patient. Call us to talk through your child’s specific presentation before booking.
